Bio: Krystal Lara

As a former olympian, I know firsthand the opportunities and challenges that come from being a student-athlete. I attended Stuyvesant High School and was recruited to Northwestern University on a full athletic scholarship, experiences that shaped both my academic and athletic trajectory. Navigating that path taught me not only how to balance elite athletic training with demanding coursework, but also how to articulate my athletic journey in a way that strengthened my academic profile. My athletic career went on to include competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming an NCAA All-American, a three Big Ten A-finalist, and a two-time Pan American Games finalist.

Working with student athletes is deeply meaningful to me because I understand how overwhelming it can feel to merge two identities while trying to plan for the future. My goal is to use my experiences to help students navigate this next stage of their lives. I help students learn how to make the most of their athletic strengths, whether they are actively pursuing recruitment or simply want to use their sport as a powerful differentiator in the college admissions process.

I support students in several key areas:

  • Balancing athletic excellence with academic rigor by building structured routines, identifying realistic priorities, and teaching habits used by high-performing student-athletes.

  • Gaining the attention of college coaches by developing polished athletic profiles, outreach strategies, timelines, highlight frameworks, and communication templates that reflect maturity and self-awareness.

  • Marketing themselves through their story: transforming training, competition, adversity, leadership, and team experiences into compelling narratives for essays, interviews, and applications.

  • Positioning athletics as a standout extracurricular even for students who are not recruited, showing how discipline, resilience, time management, and commitment can meaningfully elevate an application.

Ultimately, I’m excited to help high school student-athletes showcase their strengths and their stories in a way that leads them to the college environment where they will truly thrive athletically, academically, and personally.
